why are dental x-rays important?
We offer dental x-rays at both our Regina and Saskatoon dental offices. Dental x-rays, also known as radiographs, are an essential part of a thorough dental care treatment plan. They are diagnostic, but they can also be preventative, by helping a dentist diagnose potential oral care issues in a patient’s mouth before they become a major problem.
These X-rays allow dentists and other oral health care professionals to:
- Find cavities
- Check the health of the bone supporting the teeth
- Look at the roots of the teeth
- Determine if periodontal disease is a concern
- See and assess developing teeth
- Identify pathology or abnormal structures
- Treatment plan and perform procedures
Radiographs allow dentists to see inside a tooth and beneath the gums to assess the health of the bone and supporting tissues that hold teeth in place. Without x-rays, we would not be performing a complete assessment as there are areas that cannot be seen with the naked eye.
how much do dental x-rays in saskatoon and regina cost?
X-rays start at $25.
how often do I need to get x-rays taken?
If you do not have any concerns or symptoms we recommend that you get radiographs taken on a yearly basis in conjunction with an annual exam. For patients that are at high risk of developing oral health conditions, we may suggest more frequently. If you are having any pain or tenderness in or around your mouth we suggest you contact a dental professional as soon as possible as they may require an x-ray to determine the source of concern.
Even if you no longer have your natural teeth, it’s important to see your dentist for regular exams and x-rays to maintain your oral health and the structures that are below the tissues.
are x-rays safe?
Dental x-rays are very safe and expose the patient to a minimal amount of radiation. When all standard safety precautions are taken, today’s x-ray equipment is able to eliminate unnecessary radiation and allows the dentist to focus the x-ray beam on a specific part of the mouth. A lead apron protects the body from stray radiation.
