dentures

what are they?

Dentures are prosthetic teeth that replace missing, natural teeth. There are two main types of dentures, complete and partial. Complete dentures replace teeth when there are no natural teeth remaining in an arch while partial dentures replace only a few missing teeth. Dentures are made out of acrylic, metal or a combination of the two. They can be made prior to teeth being extracted and provided at the time when the teeth are removed or after.

why are they needed?

Dentures are necessary to replace missing teeth and allow for proper function and maintain esthetics. They can also prevent teeth from shifting and causing misalignment, space and further complications.

how much do dentures in Saskatoon and Regina cost?

The cost of dentures is dependent on a number of factors including the complexity, the amount of teeth replaced, type of material used to fabricate the dentures and whether or not they are done at the time of extraction or after.  Dentures at simpli dental start at $255 plus lab fees.

why do my dentures not fit as well as other peoples?

No two mouths are identical. There are a number of factors that contribute to or prevent good denture fit, comfort and retention. One of the primary factors is bone support. When a tooth is extracted the bone at the site begins to resorb. When teeth have been missing for a long period of time, the ridge of the jaw bone can be quite small and provide adequate retention to the dentures. There are also two types of tissue in the mouth, one of which is quite moveable and the other is tight to the underlying bone. The more moveable tissue that an individual has the less retentive a denture will be.

There are several treatment options available to increase denture retention and improve their fit. One of the best options at our disposal is placing implants to help retain and support the denture. If you are interested in learning more about implant-retained and supported dentures, please don’t hesitate to contact simpli dental.
